【摘要】:1.1Thismethoddescribesthedeterminationoftheisotopiccompositionand/ortheconcentrationofuraniumandplutoniumasnitratesolutionsbythethermalionizationmassspectrometric(TIMS)totalevaporationmethod.Purifieduraniumorplutoniumnitratesolutionsareloadedontoadegassedmetalfilamentandplacedinthemassspectrometer.Undercomputercontrol,ioncurrentsaregeneratedbyheatingofthefilament(s).Theionbeamsarecontinuallymeasureduntilthesampleisexhausted.Themeasuredioncurrentsareintegratedoverthecourseoftherun,andnormalizedtoareferenceisotopeioncurrenttoyieldisotopicratios.1.2Inprinciple,thetotalevaporationmethodshouldyieldisotopicratiosthatdonotrequiremassbiascorrection.Inpractice,somesamplesmayrequirethisbiascorrection.WhencomparedtotheconventionalTIMSmethod,thetotalevaporationmethodisapproximatelytwotimesfaster,improvesprecisionfromtwotofourfold,andutilizessmallersamplesizes.1.3Thetotalevaporationmethodmayleadtobiasesinminorisotoperatiosduetopeaktailingfromadjacentmajorisotopes,dependingonsamplecharacteristics.Theuseofanelectronmultiplierequippedwithanenergyfiltermayeliminateordiminishpeaktailingeffects.Measurementofinstrumentabundancesensitivitymaybeusedtoensurethatsuchbiasesarenegligible,ormaybeusedtobiascorrectminorisotoperatios.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
